"Gene Pierson (born Giancarlo Salvestrin) is best known in Australia for his 1970 version of the Four Tops song Reach Out. However he had greater success in NZ and in 1967 his single Love, Love, Love making No 1 on Radio Hauraki. It was followed by the hits You Got To Me (written by Neil Diamond), Toyland and others. In 1969 he returned to Australia to attend his father’s funeral but he also had to avoid four military vans who were stationed around the church to nab Gene who had actually moved to NZ as a ‘draft dodger’. You can read his full
story in a well packaged CD ‘Spinning The Moments’ which includes photos and press reports in a 64 page booklet. - Brent"
